It is 2067. Robots are widespread in all areas of life, from housekeeping to factory work to sports. People prefer not to fight themselves any more and use robots instead.
GlobalTech Corporation, the leader in modular robot production, is using a robot fighting tournament to advertise their new universal platform. The winner stands to make $100 million. This generated a lot of interest among consumers and led to a tremendous sales increase. Soon robot makers of all sizes picked up the technology, and now every other robot is assembled on their individual module platform.
Robot fights have become widely broadcast, fight committees were established, and several leagues developed.
"Fight to death" has become popular at informal arenas, when only the winner leaves the ring, while its opponent is collected often "piece by piece". This kind of fighting is very entertaining, but rather costly for the participants, because the winner gets his opponent's robot as a reward. It's not easy to become a champion in the league, but it is really honorable.
